I WANT MODERN!!!

I am creating this blog basically to receive feedback everyone, so please let me know what you think about the ideas presented here and current situations in your own cities, if modern is something you want in your lifestyle but can't find it, if green is something you feel is important for the present and future. FEEDBACK, let it rip.
Okay, So just to fill you in on my situation, i am going give background to better understand why i am doing this blog. I am 28 years old, married with 1 child who is 2 years old. I live in Utah in the second home i have purchased. I am interested in design and style, not only because i watch TLC, HGTV, and A&E all day, but because it is an expression of my personality. I like to live in an environment that is open and free and, especially, aesthetically pleasing. But this is what i have found over the past few years starting when i purchased my first home.
I had always lived in an apartment since i was first married, and we all know an apartment is a basic, no great options, boring walls, boring carpet, boring boring boring. Apartment complexes do not let you change anything so you just have to put up with it and live life. Then finally, we had the opportunity to purchase a home in good ole Lubbock, TX. Talk about boring and traditional, i felt like i was moving to a town that was designed by my grandma. Actually the "Big Boom" for Lubbock happened back when my grandparents were young so this is entirely possible. Anyway, we were given 1 option in homes and guess what it was, TEXAS TRADITIONAL! this means very basic layouts, horrible bold colors and nothing to inspire awe or creativity. So we did what we had to and we gutted our home and tried to design it as best we could to fit what our generation is in to, MODERN. okay, by modern don't think insanley ecclectic with weird sculptures, i am talking about what we all see on design shows each week on the notorius home improvement channels like the ones stated above (hgtv, tlc, a&e). We put in cabinetry from IKEA, bamboo floors, slate tiles, mosaic tiled showers, subway tiled showers, big windows that bring the outside in, stainless steel appliances, vessel sinks in the bathrooms etc.. just that sleek, straight lines, simple look.
It's in our faces all day, movies, TV, and home improvement shows. MODERN - CONTEMPORARY - MODERN. I love it and it looks great and it's the way we are going in society but in the places i live it doesn't exist. When i moved to Utah i asked my realtor to find us a home that was on the modern side of design and there was nothing. All we saw was the same cookie cutter home everywhere we went so in reality it ended up being a choice of "Do i want to live here in a cookie cutter or over there in the same freakin house?"
NO CHOICE WHATSOEVER!!!!
it's ridiculous, and DO NOT be fooled. To have a modern and green home is not outragiously expensive like everyone thinks. With amazing stores like IKEA, and renewable resources like Bamboo we can all have a home that essentially looks like a million dollar home.
Guys what i want to know is................... WHAT DO YOU WANT?????
are you like me? do you want something that fits our genereations style???? are you sick of the same old crap that is being built by the BIG HOME BUILDERS, but can't affored a home that costs $900,000???????
I am trying to prove that the market is not listening to the consumers, and that we want something other than what they were building for our grandparents 50 years. It's time for a change, RIGHT??
k, i will continue this blog if you all let me know what you think.
